Play Therapy
Nicole Lahr LPC, RPT, is currently accepting patients 3 to 12 for play therapy in our outpatient clinic. Adolescent appointments can be made, pending availability. Play therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child’s natural medium of self-expression. It is an opportunity which is given to the child to play out their feelings and problems.
Through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills and learn a variety of ways of relating to others. Play provides a safe psychological distance from their problems and allows expression of thoughts and feelings appropriate to their development.
Play therapy is helpful with anger management, grief and loss, divorce, trauma, or behavioral disorders. Children who have anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, or conduct disorders can also benefit greatly.
