Geriatric Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Program Overview

The Senior Care Intensive Outpatient Program is for adult’s ages 55+ years of age.

The program is designed to be a safe and structured transition from inpatient treatment and may also be an alternate option when conventional outpatient therapy is not sufficient to stabilize an adult’s symptoms. The intensive outpatient program can also prevent hospitalization, by stabilizing behaviors before they require an inpatient level of care.

The program consists of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) concepts/approaches. Issues addressed include but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood disorders, adjustment issues, grief, abuse/trauma, relationship conflict, poor impulse control, eating disorders, psychosis, gender specific issues, and substance abuse/dependence.

Groups are conducted from 9:00am to 1:30pm, Monday through Friday. The schedule is subject to change for holidays and/or weather events. Treatment includes group therapy, individual therapy, family sessions, activity/recreational/art therapy, educational services, and medication management. A variety of treatment groups are conducted to promote patient engagement and enhance learning.

Individualized treatment plans addressing behaviors, psychiatric symptoms, and goals are developed for each patient. The interdisciplinary team and staff of psychiatrists, therapists, and  nurses work together to stabilize symptoms and establish a foundation of skills essential to the long-term success of the individual being treated.

We encourage family/caregiver involvement in patient’s treatment. Through family sessions, our therapists educate family members on treatment goals and assist them in engaging the patient in a supporting manner at home. With patient permission, our staff will include families in discharge planning, including recommendations for additional treatment and referrals for outpatient care.

Lunch and snacks are provided daily.

Individuals will be admitted into the program based on an intake assessment. Patients will begin the program at 3 days a week and will step down to 2, and then 1 day of treatment a week as they progress. Because each patient has his/her own treatment needs, the length of time in treatment will vary.

Brentwood’s Partial Hospital Program accepts most insurance plans. This is not a Medicaid funded program.
